Job Title:                         Occupational Therapist (OT)

Reports To:                     Building Principal

Employed By:                  Special Education COOP USD #368

 

Purpose:                        

The Occupational Therapist provides treatment programs which are educationally relevant, within the school setting which help develop or restore function and prevent further disability. Areas of evaluation and treatment include: fine and gross motor development, sensory motor function, ADL training, posture and mobility training. Knowledge of adaptive devices and orthopedic equipment is necessary.

Required Qualifications:                           

• Bachelor's, Master’s or Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy/License from an accredited college/university.
• Current Occupational Therapy registration from the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts.
• Health and Inoculation Certificate on file with the COOP
• Have a valid driver’s license, be able to drive, and qualify under the district’s insurance carrier when driving a district vehicle.
• Desire to continue professional growth.

 

Physical Requirements & Conditions                          

• Frequent bending, stooping, and reaching.
• Requires the physical ability to frequently move, lift, carry, pull or push up to 20lbs.
• Requires some travel.
• Occasionally requires work outdoors, although generally not in inclement weather.
• Work areas may vary and be noisy or crowded at times.

 

General Responsibilities  

• Evaluate students upon request of the Director of Special Services or by request of the IEP team.
• Participate in the development of the student IEPs.
• Formulate appropriate IEP goals and benchmarks.
• Provide therapy programs according to student IEPs.
• Plan and implement a schedule for occupational therapy service.

 

Essential Functions:                      

• To participate as a team member in the development of student IEP goals and benchmarks.
• To communicate with the physician, if indicated, to coordinate student occupational therapy programs.
• Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and other concerning student needs.
• Order and maintain an appropriate inventory of materials and supplies.
• Maintain appropriate, confidential records and provide timely reports.
• Monitor student progress, as required under IDEA regulations.
• Assist with the planning transitional programs for students and their families.
• Refer students and their families to appropriate community agencies and services.
• Cooperate with agencies serving students and their families.
• Participate in in-service training activities, organizations and seminars which enhance professional growth/maintains appropriate number of CEU’s.
• Adhere to all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
• Other duties as assigned by Building Principal, Special Education Cooperative and District Administration
